ALSO UK is a not for profit organisation committed to the education and training of midwives, obstetricians and other health care professionals involved in the provision of care to women during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period.
The ALSO course originated in the USA in 1991, by family physicians Dr Jim Damos and Dr John Beasley, through the University of Wisconsin, Department of Family Medicine.
Copyright of the program was purchased by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in 1993. Jim Kennedy brought ALSO to the UK and we have been under licence from the AAFP since 1996.
Our multi-professional teams of instructors are qualified and extremely experienced midwives and obstetricians, who deliver evidence-based theoretical and practical training designed to develop and maintain the knowledge and practical skills required to manage obstetric emergencies.
